Jo, a writer with a lifelong passion for storytelling, recalls her early immersion in literature thanks to her mother’s influence and exposure to writing circles. Despite diverging from an expected path in college, she persisted in her love for writing. Inspired by disappointments, like the portrayal of aliens in media, she created her own diverse extraterrestrial species for her Combined Service universe. Jo’s dissatisfaction with traditional hero archetypes led her to craft a relatable protagonist, Charlie, who defies conventions from the outset by dying in the first chapter. Despite writing as a hobby, Jo’s drive stems from her desire to infuse her works with enjoyment, likening it to stuffing a suitcase with as many fun souvenirs as possible. Her debut novel, “The Magnetar,” marks her return to fiction writing after a hiatus.
